GCSE joy for Year 11 students

Date Published:
Thursday 22 August 2024

This morning, students celebrated a fantastic set of GCSE results with their parents/carers and staff. The improved results follow a successful Ofsted inspection, which saw our school graded as ‘Good’ in all areas – a significant two grade uplift.

We achieved Hermitage Academy's highest progress score to date and also saw a significant increase in the top grades awarded – over 60 grade 9s in total. Over 18% of all students also received grade 7 or above, beating regional averages for Durham and the North East. In English, over 83.5% of pupils were awarded a grade 4 or above and over 68% achieved the strong pass of grade 5 or above. 27% of all pupils were also awarded a grade 7 or above in English.

Top performances included: Jacob Bull who achieved 7 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 1 grade 7. Lucy Buckle and Rebecca Meacher both identically achieved 4 grade 9s, 5 grades and 1 grade 7.

Lindsay Maughan, Head of School, commented: “I am immensely proud of all of our students, not only for the fantastic results they have achieved but for becoming remarkable young adults. Hard work, resilience and determination are just a few of the qualities that have led to their success and these qualities will continue to take them far in life.

I want to thank our teaching team, support staff and wider community who have supported us in making positive changes over the last few years. I look forward to seeing what these students go on to achieve and I am pleased to know that many will return to our sixth form in September. Congratulations Class of 2024.”
